La Monocle is a South London–based Lesbian & FLINTA+* pop-up bar inspired by the historic Le Monocle of 1920s Paris. Rooted in queer history and community-building, La Monocle exists to create joyful, affirming, and culturally rich spaces for the Lesbian and FLINTA community in South London.

La Monocle is currently volunteer-run. Our team contributes their time, labour, and skills toward building La Monocle into a permanent venue. Our current mission is to temporarily transform non-queer venues into spaces for us, creating temporary havens of Lesbian & FLINTA nightlife across South London. All in the effort to open a permenant space in South London.

Each pop-up reclaims space, builds visibility, and directly contributes toward establishing a permanent community venue: a café by day and bar by night.

All profits from events are reinvested into securing this permanent home, a dedicated environment where people can gather, work, host events, create, and socialise within a FLINTA-centred space. We also want to operate as a community bar, so a percentage of shares will be saved for the community, in order to guarantee re-investment of funds and profits back into the South London community.

We are currently entering our investments phase, for information about donations, shareholder enquiries, and more, please go to our 'HOW TO HELP' page.

WHAT IS FLINTA+* TO US?

La Monocle Image

FLINTA+ is a German acronym for: Frauen (Women), Lesben (Lesbian), Intergeschlechtliche (Intersex), Nicht-binäre (Non-binary), Trans, and Agender people.

La Monocle wants its space to be fully Trans inclusive, inviting people of many identities to enjoy our events and spaces as much as anyone else. We do NOT accept TERFs, racists, ableists, homophobic people, or any general hate towards anyone that is a part of the LGBTQIA+ or FLINTA+ community. This space is as welcoming to Trans and Non-Binary people as anyone else, an we strive to listen to this community to ensure we continue to develop towards a fully welcoming space. All events we programme will be fully wheelchair accessible, have gender-neautral toilets, and maintain a high standard of inclusivity, from dedicated welfare officers on-site, to regular interactive conversations with our community.

Lesbian spaces and bars like ours would not exist without the perseverance and efforts of the Trans and Non-Binary community.
